National DSP Week Shines a Spotlight on the Vital Work of Direct Support Professionals Across the Nation.
Brightway Living & Learning, formerly named Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI), is proud to celebrate National Direct Support Professional Recognition (DSP) Week, honoring the dedicated and compassionate staff who provide essential care to the people we support. Brightway is a leading Long Island not-for-profit provider of services and supports children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.
This year’s celebration features a series of special events following the theme “Brightway Navigators, Charting the Course,” including a BBQ celebration for staff to enjoy a fun-filled day with food, games, music, and activities designed to show appreciation and foster community.

Kubasek, CEO, Brightway Living & Learning. “Their extraordinary dedication every day empowers the people that we support to live the life they choose and keep moving forward.”
New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities Commissioner Willow Baer said, “Direct Support Professionals are the heart and soul of daily support that allows people with developmental disabilities to live their lives independently. This is not just a job, but a calling to help others be a part of their communities as neighbors, co-workers and friends. I am grateful today, and every day, for the dedication and skill of direct support professionals across New York State.”
Earlier this year, Brightway was a proud participant in the New York State recruitment campaign #MoreThanWork addressing the serious shortage of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) that is affecting human services organizations across the state and nation.
The campaign seeks to educate the public, and particularly the job-seeking public, about the importance and fulfilling nature of direct support work and to connect potential job candidates directly to opportunities supporting New Yorkers with developmental disabilities across the state.
National Direct Support Professional Recognition Week runs through Saturday, September 19th.
