Early Childhood Program (Age 3 Through 5)

The earliest years matter most. We help young children build the skills that shape everything that follows.

Early Childhood Program (Ages 3-5) in Suffolk County

Brightway offers a continuum of special education classes, including specialized classes for children diagnosed with Autism.

We operate integrated classes and boast a full complement of typically developing students due to a partnership with Long Island Head Start. Early Childhood classes provide a stimulating, educational atmosphere where three- to five-year-old children develop friendships and skills in preparation for kindergarten.

Early Childhood Program (Ages 3–5)

Our early childhood program focuses instruction on building independence, increasing communication skills, and fostering positive peer interactions to enable students to transition to less restrictive educational placements.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Our program utilizes the Pyramid Model to promote social and emotional competence and address challenging behavior. It is a tiered approach that focuses on Nurturing and Responsive Relationships, High Quality Supportive Environments, Targeted Social Emotional Supports and Intensive Intervention. As a school we work to make environmental modifications that prevent behaviors and teach students new socially appropriate behaviors.

Preschool Curricula

The Early Childhood Program utilizes NYC Explore Units of Study which is aligned with the New York State Pre-K Learning Standards. There are 10 themed units which provide opportunities for content exploration and skill building. Unit content and skills are embedded throughout the day in small and large group learning centers, in our outdoor classrooms and playground areas. Our teachers create dynamic and engaging lessons to meet the developmental needs of their students.

Special Education Services:

Family Engagement

We welcome and support diverse families, knowing that the knowledge they possess can help link school and home. Families are partners with the educational team as ongoing relationships with caregivers are essential for student success. Connecting with families is a major component of our program; including but not limited to team meetings, monthly family training, parent workshops, family support groups and family engagement activities in the classroom.

Our Team

All classes are taught by NYS certified special education teachers. Your team may also include Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), NYS licensed occupational, physical, and speech therapists, NYS licensed social workers and NYS certified school psychologists. The Brightway Early Childhood team is charged with monitoring skill acquisition and progress and making modifications to a child’s educational plan based on supporting data.

Robert’s team goes above and beyond the call of duty. The classroom teacher, behavior specialist, and the teaching assistants in his classroom have been nothing short of amazing. They are so wonderful in communicating with us, and they share in the joys and excitement we have regarding our son’s accomplishments.
